Is there anyone more overrated than Bryce Harper?

Published

When people talk about the great players in baseball today, one name that always comes up is Bryce Harper.  That needs to end at sone point.

In six seasons, Harper has put up some very pedestrian numbers.  2015 and 2017 were by far his best years.  They are also the only years he’s ever had a batting average over .300.  We’re always told he’s an on base machine, yet he’s only walked over 70 times 3 of his six seasons in the big leagues.  What’s not mentioned, is that he’s struck out well over 100 times in 4 of those 6 seasons.  He’s also never driven in 100 runs once in his 6 year career.

This year has been especially bad.  While he has 21 homers and 50 rbi, he’s struck out 90 times in 85 games and is only batting .213.  On top of all of that, he’s not a great defensive player.  So all of this begs the question, why is he talked about among the leagues best?

The fact is, Bryce is a very good player, but he is not even close to an elite player.  He is incredibly overrated.  That’s going to hurt sone people to hear, but they’ll just have to deal with it.
