Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Texas is known for its’ football legacy, Rodger Staubach joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1969 and played with the club during all 11 seasons of his career. He led the team to the Super Bowl five times, four as the starting quarterback. He led the Cowboys to victories in Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII during his tenure with the club. In 2010, Staubach was named the No. 1 Dallas Cowboy of all time according to a poll conducted by the Dallas Morning News.

Rodger started the run for the Dallas Cowboys in the 60’s and 70’s but let’s not forget about Tony Dorsett. Dorsett rushed for 12,739 yards and 77 touchdowns in his 12-year career. Dorsett also had 13 receiving Touchdowns and even one fumble recovery for a touchdown. On January 3, 1983, during a Monday Night Football road game versus the Minnesota Vikings, Tony Dorsett broke a 99-yard touchdown run against the Vikings also known as the longest run from scrimmage in NFL history. Tony Dorsett broke the previous record of 97 yards, set by Andy Uram set back in 1939 and Bob Gage back in 1949. The Dallas Cowboys only had 10 men on the field at the time, as fullback Ron Springs was unaware of the play being called. Despite the feat, the Cowboys lost the game 27–31.

Now fast forward a few decades later to Dallas Cowboys Dynasty of the 1990s. We have the big three, starting off with Troy Aikman. Troy Aikman was the number one overall draft pick back in 1989, Troy Aikman played for twelve consecutive seasons in the NFL as quarterback for the Cowboys. During his illustrious career Aikman was a six time Pro Bowl selection, Troy Aikman led the team to three Super Bowl victories, and was the Super Bowl XXVII MVP. Troy Aikman was then later elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and proved to be one of the key elements for the Dallas Cowboys success.

The Dallas Cowboys selected Emmitt Smith in the first round of the 1990 NFL draft. During his long career he became the NFL’s all-time rushing leader, breaking the record formerly held by Walter Payton, as well as helping the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl Championships. Emmitt Smith was inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and in my mind still the greatest running back to of ever played the game.

The Dallas Cowboys also had some key other notable mentions for the 1990s era.

Jimmy Johnson was the mastermind behind this dynasty but to many egos were involved to keep this legacy going.

Deion Sanders wasn’t involved for the full run but he sure as hell had his moments wearing theDallas Cowboys uniform.

Tom Landry was the pioneer and helped lead the Dallas Cowboys to success in the 60s and 70s.

Michael Irvin despite his controversy Michael Irvin was one of the top wide receivers in the game. Irvin was a big help for the Cowboys as he dominated the league during his tenure.

The Big Three dominated the league with their explosive offense but lets not forget about where it all starts. The offensive line is what the key element was during the 1990s, and nobody can argue that. Larry Allen comes to mind when we think about all time Dallas Cowboy greats.

The Dallas Cowboys Offensive line ruled the 90’s and was the final piece to the puzzle. The combination of players and coaching was a formula for Super Bowl success.

Let’s take a look at the present day Dallas Cowboys.  They have a modern day version of the big three as well as a dominate offensive line, but what are they missing? The Dallas Cowboys need a a new coaching staff and a defensive upgrade.  If the Dallas Cowboys can get those things a new dynasty will be in the making. The Dallas Cowboys have some big changes to make after falling short of the 2018 playoff bracket so hopefully they will pull their act together for the upcoming season so the Dallas Cowboy fans can rejoice.
